“The Sea is behind” highlights the complexity of the personalities of its protagonists through the rhythm of h’dya, a Moroccan tradition that approaches the world of the carnival. Hicham Lasri tells the tale of Tarik, disguised as a woman, who accompanies a band made up of misfits. He dances for money at parties or weddings. His father, who accompanies him on an old cart, doesn’t look at him anymore.
Hicham Lasri is known for his dark and poetic approach. His first two feature films, The End (2011) and It’s them dogs (2013) have in particular been appointed to the Cannes Film Festival.
According to the press release issued by the organization of the festival, 34 films from 29 countries will be presented from 5 to 13 February. A first selection was disclosed in mid-December. The full program is not yet available.
