The Council of the Moroccan Community living Abroad (CCME) welcomed a delegation of imams and representatives of Muslim communities from the French region Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA) on Tuesday 23 October 2018 .
During this visit, Mr. Mustapha El Mourabit, CCME Project Manager, said that the Muslim community has still not seized the opportunity to live in European societies by contributing to the values of humanity alongside other cultures living in the Old Continent.
Mr. Mourabit first exposed the basics and the history of the Moroccan experience of religiosity which is defined by a Middle-East Islam and enriched by the recent restructuring of the religious field undertaken by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Commander of the believers. In this regard, he invited Muslim communities in Europe, especially in France, to intensify and their efforts in order to meet the new challenges of the European societies and to devise new readings of religious texts for a better adaption to European specificities.
In her speech, Ms. Fatima Jaldou Orsatelli, legal adviser of the Union of French Mosques and a member of the « Islam Foundation of France », emphasized the importance of developing an enlightened religious model and presenting it to young people to protect them from extremist speeches. She also said that Muslim communities face discrimination at all levels and called to change stereotypes about Muslims in the media.
For his part, Mr. Abdelhadi Cheikh Diop, religious representative of the African Muslim communities in France, expressed his gratitude to Morocco for the efforts made for the practice of Islam and the absolute support to all African citizens. He furter, recalled the congenial and secular relations that unite Morocco and Senegal, particularly in its spiritual aspect.
In this sense, the Mufti of the Comorian community in France, Sheikh Mohamed Kassim, assured that Morocco has accumulated an expertise in the area of supervising the Muslim communities abroad which contributed to the organization and the integration in European societies and expressed the need to take advantage of this expertise to improve the conditions of Muslims in France.
The delegation, made up of representatives of the Moroccan, Senegalese and Comorian communities in the south of France, was led by Mr. Khalid Belkhadir, President of the Regional Council of the Muslim Cult (CRCM) who said the visit’s goal was to bring together members of the Muslim communities to the values of plurality and living together that distinguish the Kingdom of Morocco with a religious model open to all cultures and religions.
