Sarah El Haïry, former Minister for Childhood and a member of the centrist party MoDem, was appointed High Commissioner for Childhood on 5 March 2025, a unit attached to the Minister for Labour and Solidarity, Catherine Vautrin.
Born to Moroccan parents in Romorantin-Lanthenay on 16 March 1989, she attended elementary school in Rabat and obtained her French baccalaureate in Casablanca before pursuing law studies in France. She has held several government posts, including Secretary of State for Youth Affairs and Universal National Service, Secretary of State for Biodiversity, and Minister Delegate for Children, Youth and Families.
Ms El Haïry’s nomination comes in response to a promise made by president Emmanuel Macron to criticisms of the absence of a department dedicated to children in the recent François Bayrou government.
