Homenatge a Ahmed Ghazali is the Catalan title of the book dedicated to the life and achievements of the late Ahmed Ghazali. Recently published, the book was officially presented on September 14, 2024, during a ceremony held in Barcelona to commemorate his memory. The event was attended by his family, friends, and colleagues, including Driss El Yazami, President of the Council of the Moroccan Community Abroad (CCME).

The book features sixty tributes from his loved ones and acquaintances, written in Catalan, Spanish, Arabic, French, and English. Together, they paint the portrait of a discreet, generous, and altruistic man—a cultural bridge-builder and connector of worlds. As stated in the book’s introduction, “We wanted to preserve the linguistic diversity of the contributions because, in the world Ahmed shaped, borders were irreparably broken—just like languages. He liked to refer to his own writing as ‘border writing.'”

Reflecting this spirit, his family and friends share in the preface: “Ahmed, in the intense life you lived, discretion was your way of being. Now, your passing compels us to express our grief and anger, our friendship, and our love for you.

Since you didn’t like tributes, we apologize, but we must celebrate you before saying goodbye.”

An engineer, writer, museologist, and cultural figure, Ahmed Ghazali contributed to numerous projects, including several museums in Europe, Asia, and Morocco. These include the Museum of the Civilizations of Water in Morocco (Marrakech), the Mining Ecomuseum of Jerada, the Regional Museum of Al Hoceima, and the Prehistory Park of Sidi Abderrahmane in Casablanca.

As a playwright, his works have been translated into several languages and performed in cities around the world, including Toronto, Madrid, Montpellier, Casablanca, Brussels, London, Milan, New York, and Sydney. Among his notable works are L’agneau et la baleine (The Lamb and the Whale, SACD Prize for Dramatic Writing in French, 2001, Éditions Théâtrales, 2002), Tombouctou, 52 jours à dos de chameau (Timbuktu: 52 Days by Camel, Icaria Editions, 2005), Travessies (Pausa, Sala Beckett, 2006), El cel massa baix, and Mellah.
