The round table on “Experiences of administering local diversity”,  was attended by Ms Najat Vallaud-Belkacem, former French minister and politician, and Roland Ries, Mayor of Strasbourg (France), who answered Moroccan journalist Amine Boushaba’s questions .

Ms Najat Vallaud-Belkacem said during her speech, « multiculturalism allows people to evolve . Whe she was named minister in the socilist government of Françcois Hollande, she realized how complicated it was to introduce battle against stereotypes  such as the equality man/woman or diversity. She added that for some people she was only perceived as « a quota linked to diversity » and not as a politician. She added : «  you have to believe in your legitimacy to keep fighting ».

In terms of social mixity, she says, “ different studies have shown that people live better when they live side by side with people coming from elsewhere » .

For Mr Roland Ries, Mayor of the city of Strasbourg,  there would be no dialogue without diversity. Because he says : « confronting different ideas and philosophy is important for a society. Being different, should never ba a cause hatred  or fear, only dialogue.

Mr Abdellah Boussouf, said for his part : the integration of  the Moroccans living abroad,  is an irreversible process in host societies,  adding that the link they keep with their country of origin is a cultural one.

Speaking about Migration, he said there, are currently 250 millions of migrants in the world, which can be compared to a major power like the United States.

Mr Boussouf closed the debate, by saying that more than 100 persons came from all parts of the world to participate to the CCME debates.
