Of a total of more than 1.8 Muslims living in Spain, 771,427 are Moroccans, as recently reported the Union study of Muslim communities in Spain and Andaloussi Observatory.

Thus says the study, the number of Muslims in Spain rose by 7.2% (126,218 people) in 2014 to reach 1.85 million. Moroccans are followed by Pakistanis (79,399), Senegalese (62,430) and Nigerians (44,524).

Moreover, Muslim communities are geographically concentrated in Catalonia (509,333), Andalusia (298,152), Madrid (274,907), Valencia (194,585) and Murcia (92 307), notes the same source.

It also indicates an increase in the number of Spanish Muslims from 568,352 to 718,228 people between 2013 and 2014, an increase of 26% against a decline of 2% of the immigrant Muslim population.

This is due, according to the same source, to “the acceleration of procedures for obtaining Spanish nationality.”
