Morocco will be the guest of honour at the Paris Festival du Livre (11-13 April), which has unveiled its programme of events dedicated to the Kingdom.
Morocco’s pavilion will be located under the dome of the Grand Palais at the heart of Paris and represented by authors and publishers reflecting the diversity and vitality of Moroccan literature.
The Moroccan pavilion has been designed as “an open invitation to travel and explore, in a reflection of Morocco as a cultural intersection of tradition and modernity”. It will be inspired by the sea, a symbol of the country’s rich heritage and of its commitment to a sustainable and innovative future.
It will give visitors the possibility to meet leading Moroccan writers, to participate in round-table debates on the links of literature, history and society, and to take part in discussions on the French-speaking community and the passing on of traditional stories in contemporary writing.
The organisers of the festival consider the Moroccan publishing landscape is in a state of great dynamic activity, with publishing houses taking on an important role in promoting Moroccan literature and publishing works in Arabic, Amazigh, French and English, while at the same time promoting Moroccan voices on the international stage.
Both emblematic authors and new voices will be featured, illustrating Morocco’s diverse cultural identity and history, where various cultural and linguistic influences meet. Tribute will also be paid to authors whose work has left a lasting legacy in Moroccan literature and thinking, notably Edmond Amran El Maleh and Driss Chraibi.
The Moroccan pavilion, conceived as an immersive space celebrating the diversity and richness of Moroccan writers, will host some forty publishing houses.
