Mr Abdellah Boussouf, Secretary General of the Council of the Moroccan Community Abroad (CCME) and Mr Ricotti Paolo, President of Patronato ACLI (Italian workers’ association), signed a partnership agreement in Rabat on Thursday 6 July 2023 to promote reciprocal knowledge and a cultural exchange between Morocco and Italy.
At the meeting, the two institutions introduced the media to the first phase of their partnership, “From Morocco to Italy: a practical guide for living in Italy”, the first section of a guide produced by the CCME and Patronato ACLI, in both Arabic and Italian, to assist Moroccans settling in Italy.
Addressing the meeting, Mr Boussouf said that any efforts to bring the two shores together could only be made within the context of a participatory strategy that combined the efforts of different parties, because no single party, no matter how strong, was able to meet the challenges of an issue such as migration alone.
Efforts undertaken by both sides today give us the chance “to build a model of successful migration with Italy, which integrates rights and duties, considering all the common ground we have in our Mediterranean culture, our temperament, our gastronomy…”. Moroccans in Italy have undoubtedly succeeded in achieving economic, cultural and social irreversible integration.
The Patronato ACLI is a private-law organization committed to assisting the workers and to protecting their rights in the areas of social security, healthcare, workplace safety and workplace accidents, as well as ensuring access to welfare benefits. It has offices throughout Italy, with 20 regional branches, 105 provincial offices, 456 local offices and more than 2,000 branches and contact points. Moreover, it has offices in 19 countries (Albania, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, the United States, Canada, Venezuela, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, South Africa and Australia).
The discussion that took place following the signing of the agreement involved the contribution and interaction of over a dozen Moroccans from Italy, who shared their migration experiences and journeys.
