The Council of the Moroccan Community Abroad (CCME) applauds the call for projects launched by the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication for publishing and books, giving special consideration to the translation of literary works by Moroccans living abroad.
The Ministry of Culture released the broad outlines of its programme to support Morocco’s publishing and book sector on Tuesday 11 March 2025. This includes promoting the publishing of Moroccan authors’ bestsellers in paperback and the translation of the works of Moroccans living abroad, in recognition of their “ contribution to the strengthening of intercultural dialogue through their literary works ”.
This year, the CCME – which participated with Moroccan publishers in translating and publishing Moroccan fiction and essays from French and Dutch into Arabic- warmly welcomes this initiative by the Ministry.
Noting that 2025 is the year commemorating the seventieth anniversary of the novel of Les Boucs by Driss Chraïbi, the first significant Moroccan novel on immigration, which was not translated in arabic and published until 2021, Driss El Yazami said: ‘I would like to thank Mr Mohammed Mehdi Bensaïd, Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, for having acted swiftly on our Council’s request. By making it easier for the Arabic-speaking audience to have access to this literature, which is now being written in languages from all over the world, the Minister is both paying tribute to the creators of this literature and expanding our horizons and enriching our imaginations. This is an invaluable gesture.
