Paris: Presentation of the book "Haim Zafrani, thinker of Moroccan diversity" by sociologist Mustapha Saha

Friday, 29 May 2015

The Moroccan sociologist Mustapha Saha will present his new book "Haim Zafrani, thinker of Moroccan diversity" during a tribute that will be made next Sunday in Paris, to this tireless explorer of the Jewish-Arab memory, who died in 2004.

Painter, poet and sociologist at the initiative of this tribute-event, Mustapha Saha considers Chaim Zafrani as a historian of reference and a major thinker of structural diversity and cultural plurality constitutive of Moroccan society since its origins.

"Haim Zafrani has continued throughout his life and scientific research, to return to basics to base future memory” said Mustapha Saha.

The Maghreb Judaism, while maintaining organic links with its spiritual sources is, according to the formulation of Chaim Zafrani, "the product of the North African soil where it is fertilized and where it lived for nearly two millennia," notes the Moroccan sociologist.

Franco-Moroccan historian of the Sephardic culture and the relations between Jews and Arabs, Haim Zafrani wrote fifteen books and over 150 articles on Judaism in several Muslim countries, particularly Morocco.

This native of Essaouira is also a specialist of Sephardic culture, doctor of humanities and in Oriental Studies. Zafrani Haim was also a member of the Institute of Semitic Studies at the College de France and sponsored a committee of the magazine "Horizons Maghreb".
