Monday, 27 July 2015

A roundtable on "Amazighism, cultures, identities and cultures" was held Saturday in Fez, with the participation of leading researchers and linguists from various backgrounds.

This meeting initiated as part of the 11th International Festival of Amazigh culture under the motto "alliance of cultures and religions for peace", was an opportunity for the many participants to review cultural and identity differences in some countries of the world while advocating for the promotion of peaceful dialogue and coexistence between peoples and cultures.

Speaking on this occasion, the Moroccan writer Maati Kabbal addressed the theme "Multiculturalism and Migration" noting that "thanks to shipwrecks and repeated violence, migration has changed."

"We fled the war to die in the sea," he said.

According to him, this tearing strongly influences identities and cultures, citing in this context the Syrian case. "Today, there isn’t a Syrian elite anymore. It was completely dislocated," said Mr. Kabbal.

For his part, the Moroccan researcher Mohamed Nedali noted that "awareness of one’s cultural identity cannot be done without awareness of the cultural identity of the other " adding that "culture has always been something that builds and renews itself by constantly interacting with other cultures. "

Referring to the recognition and acceptance of others and their differences, he indicated that "in case of reciprocity, cultural identity becomes the very foundation of democracy and guarantor of human values ie freedom, tolerance and respect for others. "

Organized by the Spirit of Fez Foundation and Fez-Saiss Association, in partnership with the Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture (IRCAM), the festival of Amazigh culture aims to promote Amazigh and Moroccan culture in general and the historical, social and civilizational significance of the alliance of cultures and religions of the world for peace.

Initiated in partnership with the South North Centre for Dialogue of Cultures, the festival provides a wide range of activities including thematic conferences, cultural events, art exhibitions, projection of documentary films and workshops.
