70% of Moroccan consulates will be subject to major changes

Thursday, 13 August 2015

Salaheddine Mezouar announced Wednesday at a press conference key measures to be enforced in a number of Moroccan consulates.

A restructuring of services responsible for consular affairs will be performed at the central administration. Audit missions will be dispatched this week in the different consulates to assess the performance of consular officers and local staff on the basis of criteria of competence, transparency and dedication to the service of the Moroccan community residing abroad.

These measures, which will be enforced from the month of November marking the end of a three-month training session, aim to inject new blood and rejuvenate consular staffs (about 30).

Recruitment will be open to children of the Moroccan community in accordance with the legal provisions. This measure concerns 70% of the consular corps, according to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, who also revealed that the Consular Administration will recruit in addition of young people more women.

As of August 17, an international hotline will be available to members of the Moroccan community abroad to receive their complaints and grievances and even listen to their requests. A mechanism for monitoring and treatment of files will be established to this effect.

As a reminder, during the royal speech at the Throne Day, King Mohammed VI had called the Foreign Ministry to take the necessary steps to end the dysfunctions observed in some consulates.
