Wednesday, 26 August 2015

The city of Paris paid tribute to late King Mohammed V by installing a plaque with the words "Companion of liberation" at the Mohammed V square in Paris, to mark the 71th anniversary of the liberation of Paris and the 70th anniversary of the delivery of the Order of the Liberation by General de Gaulle to late King Mohammed V, June 19, 1945.

The Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo, Chakib Benmoussa, the Ambassador of Morocco in France and Jean-Marc Todeschini, French Secretary of State for Veterans Affairs and Memory were present at this tribute to the late Mohammed V.

Mohammed V fire had obtained the Cross of the Liberation by General de Gaulle in 1945 for his fight against the occupation of Nazi Germany. During the French protectorate, King Mohammed V had in fact refused to implement at the expense of Moroccan Jewish citizens the anti-Semitic Vichy law of the French government of the time.

Place Mohammed V, situated in the 5th district of Paris in front of the Arab World Institute (IMA) was inaugurated in 2002 by His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the former President of France Jacques Chirac.
