Rabat: the Union of African Parliaments backs the return of Morocco to the AU

The members  of the African Parliaments (UPA) who met in Rabat from 5 to 9 November 2016 for the 69th session of the Executive Committee and the 39 th conference, "support the initiative of HM King for the return of the Kingdom of Morocco in the African institutional family, "said Mrs Marie Ange Lukiana, national MP and Chair of the delegation of the Democratic Republic of Congo at the closure of the 5 day meeting in Rabat.

Mrs Marie Ange Lukiana further stated that "this initiative will strengthen the process of building a united and prosperous Africa".

The debates that took place at the the Chamber of Advisors, have raised issues like sustainable development in Africa, the fight against terrorism and the engagement of citizens in democracy promotion.

At the termination of the 39th conference a message of thanks and gratitude to his Majesty the king has been read on behalf of the UPA. The organisation also sent its appreciation to King Mohammed VI,for his support and commitment to the African Union,

Fifteen Presidents of UPA Parliaments and more than 240 parliamentarians from 29 countries and 8 international organizations have participated to the conference.
