Morocco, ‘Model for Modern Muslim states’: Irish Newspaper

Monday, 23 January 2017

In an article published by the Irish paper, Eoghan Harris praised the climate of tolerance, coexistence and openness prevailing in Morocco, stressing that the Kingdom is a model for Muslim countries.

“In another act of good authority, King Mohammed VI has recently restored the Jewish names of the streets in the old ghetto in Marrakesh,” the source went on.

“This gesture is in the same generous spirit as his grandfather, King Mohammed V, who stoutly protected Moroccan Jews from the fascist regime of Vichy France,” the author pointed out.

Last year, the city of Marrakesh hosted an international conference on the rights of religious minorities in predominantly Muslim countries.

The conference was an opportunity to laud Morocco as a model of coexistence and interaction between Muslims and followers of other religions.
