Estonian government increases immigration quota

Thursday, 18 December 2014

The Estonian government set with its decree the Estonian 2015 immigration quota at 1,322 persons, which forms 0.1% of Estonia's permanent population, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

Next year the immigration quota increases as compared to previous years. In 2013 it was 1,000 persons, in 2014, 996 persons.

In previous years, the immigration quota had been set at 0.075% of Estonia's permanent population. In 2015, the immigration ceiling is established in the maximum size allowed by the law.

The government argued that based on statistics, the interest to come to Estonia on the basis of residence permits has increased. In particular, the interest in coming to Estonia with a resident permit granted for working has increased.
