He addressed the impact of a European memorandum that requires foreign banks operating in Europe to establish local branches that are subject to European regulations, on Moroccan banks operating in European countries, especially on remittances of the Moroccan diaspora.
According to media outlets that attended the meeting, the Governor of the Banque du Maroc said that the Central Bank's offices are holding discussions and negotiations with some central banks, especially in France and Spain, to ensure that the interpretation of this memorandum does not impact the interests and financial transactions of the Moroccan community abroad.
The Exchange Office indicates: the remittances of the Moroccan community abroad reached more than 115 billion dirhams in 2023, and European countries are the top senders of remittances from Moroccan migrants.
