Friday, 21 November 2014

The government is in the process of preparing an ambitious cultural strategy to strengthen the cultural offer for the Moroccans living abroad said Wednesday night in Paris, the Minister of Moroccans residing abroad and migration affairs, Anis Birou.

At a discussion meeting with members of the Moroccan community in France, organized at the initiative of the House of Morocco Foundation, Mr. Birou stated that this project aims to meet a real demand for the Moroccan community, willing to maintain links with the culture of their country of origin and to transmit this attachment to their children.

This action plan is currently under study and will be developed with the assistance of several government departments and national institutions and in consultation with organizations representing Moroccans abroad,

The minister noted that this strategy must adapt to the reality of the multiple Moroccan communities living in the four corners of the world. In addition to maintaining the links between the MRE and their homeland and promoting knowledge of the culture and language of Morocco to the new generations, this cultural policy will promote healthy integration into the host society and provide solutions to allayed identity conflict faced by some young Moroccans.

He further revealed that the integration strategies followed by Moroccans expatriates are, in most cases, successful in the sense that they were able to integrate into their host societies and contribute fully to the economic life , and social policy of the country of residence without sacrificing their Moroccan culture and maintaining a strong link with their country of origin.

"Moroccans of the world, benefiting from the high solicitude of HM King Mohammed VI, who are among the government's priorities have contributed, through their ability to adapt and their human and professional qualities to convey the image positive enjoyed by Morocco abroad as an emerging and open country" he added.

This new cultural strategy will support these assets through a deep understanding of Moroccan culture, which can support the emotional and family ties between Moroccans of the World and their country, said Mr. Birou.

For their part, the participants in this debate, including civil society actors, intellectuals and Moroccan students abroad, emphasized the importance of deploying a network of Moroccan cultural centers in countries with a strong presence of Moroccans for structuring and strengthening Moroccan cultural action abroad.

They also stressed the importance of teaching Arabic to the children and young Moroccans, calling for harmonization of efforts between Moroccan institutions and local foreign associations to reach the largest number of Moroccans living in abroad.
