Spain: more than 183,000 Moroccan affiliated to the social security

Moroccans are still at the forefront of EU workers affiliated to the social security in Spain, according to official figures published Thursday in Madrid.

A total of 183,058 Moroccans were affiliated to social security in Spain at the end of October, according to a statement published by the Spanish Ministry of Labour and Social Security.

Moroccans represent the largest proportion of foreign workers affiliated to the regime, followed by Chinese workers with 91,554 people, 73,280 Ecuadorians and 61,097 Bolivian workers, the source added.

According to the digits of the Spanish Ministry of Labor, the job market in October recorded a decrease of 1 per cent (15,382) of the number of migrant workers enrolled in the system of social security.

Therefore, the number of foreigners affiliated to social security in Spain stood at 1,566,953 workers.

Of the total foreign affiliates, 928,886 are from the European Union (EU), including 270,985 in Romania.

The number of Moroccans legally established in Spain, as of January, 1st 2014, is estimated at 714,221 people, according to figures from the National Statistics Institute (INE).

Moroccans represent the largest foreign community outside the European Union legally settled in the Iberian country despite a drop of 31,144 persons compared to 2013.
