Paris: Guided tours to discover the richness and diversity of contemporary art in Morocco

Thursday, 27 November 2014

Morocco's Consulate-General in Paris is organizing a series of guided tours of the exhibition-event "Contemporary Morocco" at the Institut du Monde Arabe (IMA) in favor of Moroccan students as well as French students residing in the Paris region, in order to get a taste of the richness and diversity of contemporary art in Morocco.

In a statement to the news agency MAP, the Consul General of Morocco in Paris, El Ouafi Boukili Makhoukhi, said that this initiative, in collaboration with IMA aims to introduce children and young people to Morocco's progress on all fronts, especially on the artistic facet.

These visits will take place over three weeks and will involve several groups of 20 to 25 students in primary and secondary schools, along with teachers and parents. These visits were scheduled in coordination with associations in the Paris region and Moroccan teachers of the language and culture of origin.

This is to allow hundreds of children to immerse themselves in contemporary Moroccan art and participate in workshops dedicated to young audiences to create works of art, added Mr. Boukili, noting that at the end of the visits, students are the beneficiaries of educational guides on artistic creation.

The exhibition "Contemporary Morocco", which continues until January, 25 2015, is one of the largest ever in France devoted to the contemporary art scene of another country. It brings together painters of several generations, from the pioneers of modern painting to young Moroccans experimenting with various techniques.

This cultural event also includes many musical and dance performances, screenings of Moroccan films, and lectures, symposia and debates for understanding today's Morocco and discovering the new landscape of contemporary art.
