France: CCIF launches an online campaign to help report anti-Muslim acts

The Collective Against Islamophobia in France (CCIF), revealed that more than 50 anti-Muslim incidents have been reported across France in less than a week since the terrorist attack on satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo.

According to the CCIF, a monitoring body within the Central Council of Muslims, among the 54 anti-Muslim incidents, there has been 21 reports of shootings, grenade throwing at Islamic buildings and 33 threats and insults.

The CCIF has then launched an online campaign to help protect the Muslim community and their places of worship.

A sample letter is made available to citizens in order to report any Islamophobic action, by sending the letter to the prefect, a formal request to implement of a security plan for places of worship takes place.

According to Zekri the escalation in anti-Muslim acts was “unprecedented” in France. In comparison, 110 acts of anti-Muslim violence were registered from January to September of 2014.

France’s Interior Ministry, which had already announced extra police protection for Jewish schools and temples, indicated on Tuesday that additional security forces would also be sent to guard Muslim places of worship.
