Driss Ajbali and Caroline Fourest guest speakers of the Council of Europe’s parliamentary hearing

Monday, 26 January 2015

The Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) organizes this Monday, January 26, 2015 in Strasbourg, a parliamentary hearing entitled "Terrorist attacks in Paris: together for a democratic response" .

Parliamentarians will be engaging discussions with two guest speakers for the occasion: Caroline Fourest, essayist and journalist, former associate of Charlie Hebdo and editor of the journal ProChoix and sociologist and essayist Driss Ajbali, author of "Violence and immigration. "

Following the attacks in Paris against satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo and the kosher supermarket, as well as the attacks perpetrated in Montrouge, what conclusions can we draw? What are the possible lines of thought in terms of governmental and legislative actions, what actions can be envisaged in school, in prisons and in sensitive areas? Is secularism still a bulwark against fundamentalism?

These questions and more will be raised at the conference as a basis for the preparation of an emergency debate to be held on the same issues later this week, as part of the plenary session of the PACE (26-30 January 2015).
