Moroccan residents in Algeria: No change in residence cards.

Wednesday, 28 January 2015

The Ministry of Interior of Algeria and the Moroccan Consulate in Algiers deny any change in the issuing of residence cards.

Unlike the information that circulated lately on websites and newspapers, Alger has not changed its policy for issuing residence permits to Moroccan citizens.

Media 24 has verified the information related to the services of the residence permit from the Ministry of Interior of Algeria, as well as with the Consulate General of Morocco in Algiers.

Contacted by phone Tuesday 20th January, an official working in the service in charge of issuing residence cards for foreigners at the Ministry of Interior of Algeria has denied any change. "There is no change in our current policy," he said, adding not knowing the origin of this information.

Algerian Interior Ministry and the Consul General of Morocco refute the rumor

The Ministry of Interior in Algiers states that “the 10-year residence permit for Moroccan and Tunisian residents is still ongoing."

The same response was given by the Consulate General of Morocco in Algiers contacted also by telephone. "There is nothing official about it even though the press published things"

In recent days, information media echoed of a policy change of Algiers on the matter citing “security imperatives."

These media speak of more restrictive conditions: instead of 10 years, Alger would have decided to impose a quarterly renewal except for married Moroccans to Algerians.
