Germany: One family in three is of immigrant descent

According to a report from the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) published Tuesday, February 3, 2015 in Wiesbaden, Germany, one family in three in the country is of foreign origin.

"More than 2.5 million of the nearly 8.1 million families with minor children  are of immigrant origin" read the results of this survey.

Within these families, at least one parent is foreign or has obtained German citizenship by naturalization, said the Federal Statistical Office.

"In 2013, 131,000 lived in Germany and were from immigrant families more than when the first survey was conducted in 2005. They increased by 4% since 2005 and in 2013, they accounted for 31% of the German population.
