New York: Several Moroccans Miss out on Eid celebrations as RAM Cancels their flight- Viral criticism ensues

Friday, 24 July 2015

Several Moroccans who wanted to celebrate Eid El Fitr in Morocco were stranded at the New York airport after a flight cancellation by the Moroccan national carrier (RAM). The flight did finally arrive on Moroccan soil one day after the Eid celebrations.

A flight of the national company originally scheduled for Thursday July 16 at 9:20 from the John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) in New York to the Mohamed V Airport in Casablanca has finally arrived but three days late.

Several Moroccans who were about to take that flight to join their family in Morocco to celebrate Eid El Fitr with family recounted their misadventures from New York airport through videos posted on Youtube.

Officials of the RAM company stated “overbooking" as a reason to explain a delay of two hours before announcing the cancellation of the flight due to a technical failure

"Our flight was supposed to leave at 9:20, they said it was delayed a few hours, and now they told us that we cannot leave today and the flight was postponed for 13 hours tomorrow" said a passenger on a video posted online.

Indeed, the flight finally arrived on Sunday, July 19, one day after Eid El Fitr was celebrated in Morocco (Saturday, July 18).

Ever since, many Moroccans took on to their phones and social media pages to call out RAM national company for poor customer service even launching an online petition urging other international carriers to serve the North-America-Morocco route, which is to this date monopolized by Royal Air Maroc.
