The National Defence Ministry said in a statement, that the first attempt took place at midday. A Navy patrol intercepted, 26 miles off East Nabeul, a boat with on board 37 Tunisian illegal immigrants.

Another boat transporting 38 Tunisian illegal immigrants was intercepted, after more than one hour, by a Navy ship, 20 miles off Haouaria in northern Cap Bon. The two boats which were heading for the Italian island of Pantelleria were forced to turn back and reach La Goulette Port where they were arrested by the Maritime Guard.
