The report reveals that 633,700 first-time residence permits were approved in France last year. An increase of 1.8 % compared to 2023, with students coming at the forefront of the new permits, with approximately 110,000 permits.
For their part, Humanitarian residence permits increased by over 13 per cent to reach more than 50,000 permits, while residence permits for family reasons surpassed 90,000 new permits, according to the report.
In 2024, Moroccans led the list of foreign nationals who were granted residence permits for the first time in France, representing a number of 37,000 people, which constitutes 11 % of the total annual permits granted to foreigners for residency in France, according to the report.
A close analysis of the numbers of first-time residence permits granted to Moroccans in 2024 reveals that more than 34% of them are for students newly arrived in France, followed by permits relating to family purposes (32.4 %) followed by permits for economic reasons ( 29 %), while only 1.5 % were for humanitarian reasons.
The report on immigration in France reveals that in 2024, about 880,000 people had their residence permits renewed which is an increase of around 2.4 %.
As in 2023, Moroccans led the number of people renewing their residency cards in France in 2024, with 128,500 people, which represents 15 % of all foreigners who have renewed their residency in France.
