The European border control agency Frontex reports that in 2024 irregular border crossings in Europe have fallen to their lowest level since 2021, a year which was impacted by the Covid pandemic.

In an interview with the newspaper Le Parisien on 6 January 2025, Bruno Retailleau, France's Minister of the Interior, expressed his desire to hold a referendum on immigration in France, deploring the current impossibility of doing so due to constitutional constraints.

To mark International Migrants Day on 18 December, UN Secretary-General António Guterres underlined migrants' importance and praised their essential contributions to economies and communities across the world. In his message, the UN Secretary-General also called attention to the considerable challenges they face, including widespread prejudice, discriminatory attitudes, violence and human trafficking. Injustices exacerbated by misinformation and hate speech, which fuels divisions and distorts perceptions of migrants.

Commemorating the 76ᵉ anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rights, the Moroccan Organisation for Human Rights (OMDH) has reiterated its commitment to migrants and asylum seekers’ rights in Morocco. At a conference held on 11 December in Oujda, attended by its President, Idrissi Hassan, and members of its Legal Assistance Centre, the OMDH outlined recommendations to reinforce the rights protection measures for migrants and asylum seekers.

Rabat - Morocco is a champion country of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, thanks to its commitment to saving lives and implementing coordinated efforts to prevent migrants from going missing, Chief of Mission at the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Morocco, Laura Palatini, said in Rabat on Wednesday 11 december 2024.

Spain's Secretary of State for Migration, Pilar Cancela Rodriguez hailed on Wednesday 04 December 2024 the "close cooperation" with Morocco in managing migration flows.
